Prism Medical has provided moving, handling and bathing equipment as a charitable donation to support the work of St Kentigern Hospice in St Asaph, Denbighshire.
Prism Medical manufactures hoist and bathing equipment at its nearby Freeway Division facility at Kinmel Bay, which were among the items provided to the hospice. St Kentigern hospice and day care centre provides end of life care for adults across North Wales, taking in East Conwy, Denbighshire and Flintshire. Some of the Prism Medical Team at Kinmel Bay have first hand experience of the excellent work that St Kentigern’s does 365 days a year. This is what inspired the donation of the equipment as it will make a real difference in helping staff care for those at St Kentigern’s.
St Kentigern relies totally on charitable donations for funding – its running costs are around £1.6m a year. Funding problems last year resulted in a reduction in the number of residential beds it could support. Thankfully this year due to the generous support of the local community and businesses St Kentigern’s is back to utilising all of its eight bedrooms, including two which now have new Freeway Transactive Xtra ceiling track hoists.
Prism Medical will also look after the inspection and maintenance of the equipment provided to ensure it is kept in good condition and available for use. The nursing team at St Kentigern “We cannot thank Prism enough for donating and fitting the ceiling hoists into 2 of our rooms and the wide range of highly comfortable slings. These have transformed how we can care for our patients; they are so efficient and feel incredibly safe. They will enable us to ensure that the patient’s and staff’s well-being remains paramount on a daily basis“.
